This “Great Mosque” was built in 1396 from stones brought from nearby Mt. Uludag, which is known today as Turkey’s top ski-spot. The roof of this imposing structure is made up of twenty domes supported by enormous piers. Built by commission of Beyazit after his successful repulsion of crusaders on the Danube, it is the very heart of the city of Bursa. Typical of early Ottoman architecture, you will notice that the inside has a much different feeling than the exterior, and is finely decorated with walnut and filled with the soothing sounds of running water.
