This green-tinted mosque was built in the same year that Columbus sailed the ocean blue- 1492. Small in comparison to many of Turkey’s grander mosques, the Yesil Camii, as the Green Mosque is known in Turkish, in Iznik predates but shows hints of the marvellously ornate tile industry that was to spring up here nearly half a century later.
